band of the week-October 8

Camouflage

A more successfull try at decoupage. This time I used a napkin (couldn't find camo tissue locally) instead of tissue paper. I carefully did small sections at a time and I didn't obsess as much about wrinkles (trying to smooth them too much ripped and smudged the paper last time). I also cut along the edge with scissors after the top layer of mod podge and then applied another layer and smoothed the edges out. For those not familiar with decoupage, an item such as a paper or cloth is applied using mod podge (similiar to white glue, available at any craft store, walmart, etc) and then another layer is applied on top to protect it. Decoupage was used with blue tissue paper to cover the whole thing in a disaster I didn't keep weeks ago. It was used again with wrapping paper to do the large Sesame Street characters in a previous band of the week, and then this week for the whole thing. When doing large scale like this you have the same issue as with large stickers, the curve of the band wrinkles and does not allow them to go down smooth. You have to just work with that or stick to small scale. I will be decoupaging again with John Deere fabric.
